Legal Directories

Choosing Legal Directories

Selecting a legal directory in which to set up a profile should be done with some consideration.  To me, the biggest concerns should be search engine visibility of the directory, your profile visibility within the directory, and the characteristics of your profile (i.e. does it contain contact information and links to your website).

As you will quickly find from some simple searches, there are a lot of legal directories from which to choose.  Some are free, and some you have to pay to be included in.

You will also notice that this capsule is specific to legal directories.  There are obviously many more directories out there that aren't legal in nature.  Be careful in posting profiles in directories that are unrelated to the subject of your practice.  This is especially true if your profile contains links back to your website.  Obtaining high numbers of irrelevant links to your website may hurt your overall visibility online.

As long as you stick to relevant directories with high visibility and robust profiles, you should see some benefit from spending time acquiring profiles in legal directories.  This is especially true if you are able to identify local legal directories that contain business listings in your geographic location.
