What's Your Rep?

When building your professional reputation on the web, it's important to keep in mind that it may impact your reputation offline too.
When building your professional reputation on the web, it's important to keep in mind that it may impact your reputation offline too.

Web-Based Reputation Building Tip #1

The first, and most important thing to remember about building your professional reputation online is that it's your professional reputation.  While that statement may seem a little enigmatic, it's meant to serve as a reminder that what you do online, WILL affect your reputation offline.

Therefore, for everything that you do online, you must consider the ramifications it will have offline.  And ignorance is really not an excuse.

That being said, each professional will have to make important decisions about how they want themselves, their practice, or their company portrayed on the Internet.  And not everyone will reach the same conclusions.  Some will choose strategies that others may consider undignified.  Some will look to achieve results in a short amount of time while others will invest in long term strategies.

The bottom line is that no matter which strategies you choose, you need to remember that what you do online will echo offline.
